Description

Rare Vintage Zuni Eagle / Thunderbird Bolo Tie

Circa 1940- 1950

Attributed to the Zuni silversmith team of Frank Vacit and Elizabeth Leekya... Circa 1940 - 1950.

The Vacit's are considered among the finest Silversmiths of the period.  Frank Vacit began producing in the 1030's. Their art is highly collected.

Elizabeth Leekya was the daughter of Leekya Deyuse, considered the father of modern Southwest Native American Art and Crafts.

Leekya, himself, was a superb stone cutter and lapidary. He, along with Zuni dealer CG Wallace gathered a team of amazing artists that ushered in the modern Southwest era... circa 1922.

This Thunderbird Bolo Ties is Silver, Turquoise, Coral, Jet and Mother of Pearl. It is made using Channel Inlay... each Stone is held in place in its own silver channel.

I photographed it atop the image of a similar Thunderbird from the Schaaf book.

There is no identification or hallmark. That's not unusual with jewelry made during this early period.

It measures -  1 3/4" x 1"

Leather Bolo string tie and Handmade Silver Tips
