telling people that Indian jewelry not only looked great but it was an even better investment.
Stores like Saks, Bloomingdale's and Niemen Marcus began selling high end
Southwest jewelry to an eager clientele.

The trend was so strong that imitations started to flood the market.... there was a loss
 of confidence and the mania ended. Of course, the art form did not die. It quietly continued
 through a small cadre of knowledgeable dealers, writers, collectors, enthusiasts,
fashion designers and museums.

The main difference between collecting now and then is the internet.

Modern communications have made it much easier for collectors to get the best material.
 ... to grow their collections to unprecedented heights. At the risk of sounding self serving,
do not diminish the value of a dedicated dealer working on your behalf.
